Shortly after the flooding began around 2 p.m. Friday, the DOT, along with the New York State Police closed Route 209 in Westbrookville due to the ice jam and flooding.
The road is closed from Pine Kill road and Port Orange Road as officials work to break up an 8-foot wall of ice, state DOT officials said.
As of 4 p.m., the road is expected to remain closed as the work continues to clear the ice blocking the Pine Kill Creek that is sending water, ice, wood, trees and more into the roadway and onto surrounding properties.
Assisting Westbrookville included firefighters from Otisville, Cuddebackville, Huguenot and Port Jervis.
Motorists are asked to avoid the area and to monitor NY 511 for updates.
